HonoURS&
Awards
The Lord-Lieutenant oversees the presentation of Royal honours and awards across the county. These accolades, including the British Empire Medal and The King’s Award for Voluntary Service, formally recognise the outstanding merits and dedicated service demonstrated by citizens and organisations within the local community.

ROYAL VISITS

Royal visits are an important part of the Royal Family’s role. Many of the visits are connected to charities and other organisations with which members of the Royal Family are associated. In other cases, Royal visits help to celebrate historic occasions in the life of an area.
Visits are always memorable occasions for the hosts, and provide a high-profile celebration of their work and achievements.
All visits are carefully planned to ensure that as many people as possible have the opportunity to see or meet members of the Royal Family.
Requests for Royal visits can be submitted to the relevant Private Secretary with a copy to the Lord-Lieutenant or directly to the Lord-Lieutenant.

Birthdays & Anniversaries
As the personal representatives of the Monarch, Lord-Lieutenants (or their Deputy Lieutenants) can deliver personal congratulatory messages for the following milestones:
Birthdays - 100th, then 105th and every year thereafter
Wedding Anniversaries - 60th (Diamond), 65th, 70th (Platinum) and every year thereafter
Royal Garden Party
The Royal Garden Party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse is a highlight of the Scottish ceremonial calendar. Each year, guests from across Roxburgh, Ettrick and Lauderdale are invited in recognition of their service to their communities. Nominations are carefully considered by the Lord-Lieutenant and submitted to the Palace. Attendance is by invitation only and numbers are limited, so early and detailed nominations from local organisations are essential.

Invite the Lord-Lieutenant
Organisations within Roxburgh, Ettrick and Lauderdale may invite the Lord-Lieutenant to attend events that celebrate community achievement, mark significant milestones, or support local charitable endeavours. As His Majesty’s representative, the Lord-Lieutenant’s presence serves to recognise the importance of the occasion and the contributions of those involved.
